NZICF 18 | 5 mins with Alex Williamson

After selling out shows in Sydney, Australian comedian, Alex Williamson brings his unique brand of comedy to this year’s festival. A twisted outlook that will question your faith in humanity before resorting it ever so slightly; “So Wrong, it’s Wrong” promises something for everyone…. unless you’re an 85 year old church goer. We caught up with Alex before he heads our way.

Describe your show in three words or less…
Twisted, yet inspiring.

What’s the inspiration behind it?
I’ve definitely drawn upon a lot of my own life experiences. There’s a lot of truth to this show, and less made up stories, because you don’t forget the truth – which helps when you’re a stoned guy on stage.

Where will we find you during the festival?
I’ll just be in Auckland at Rangatira Q Theatre (I really want to hit Wellington, Christchurch & various other places later in the year). You’ll probably see me up K Road with a bag full of drug paraphernalia.

NZ Comedy Scene – would you swipe right or swipe left?
I can’t remember which is the “I wanna date you” swipe direction (I haven’t had Tinder in a while). But whatever that direction is, I’d swipe!

Do you have any top picks for this year’s festival?
Go check out Aunty Donna’s live stage insanity extravaganza.

What song or movie best describes the story of your life?
The Disaster Artist. Probably how every Youtuber feels.

What are you currently binge-watching on Netflix?
Documentary series on Prohibition in the States. Probably one of the worst atrocities in history.

And your top 3 songs on Spotify?
1) John Farnham- You’re the Voice.
2) John Farnham- You’re the Voice.
3) John Farnham- You’re the Voice.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
Study sleep patterns of sleeping people and wonder to myself why these idiots have to do it.
