Whether it was on the radio, music television or YouTube, you’ve probably heard ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Canadian singer/songwriter Carley Rae Jepsen.
The irresistibly catchy song has been sitting at #1 on iTunes for 4 weeks, and has been certified platinum in New Zealand. The track is dominating our radio airwaves and it’s had OVER 27 MILLION VIEWS on YouTube.
If that’s not enough, it also has celebs making home-made music videos! If you don’t believe us, you can see for yourselves here – from Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez right through to James Franco and most recently pop princess Katy Perry.
So what’s her story?
Having impressed Justin Bieber, a man with some serious musical clout, who first heard the song on Canadian radio while holidaying in his home country, Jepsen found herself on a rollercoaster ride of success thanks to the backing of Bieber and his team.
Paying it forward…
Says Justin Bieber, “I feel as an artist I have a responsibility to pay it forward. When I was home in Canada I heard Carly and I became a fan and felt like I could help her the way Usher helped me. The good news is that she is a superstar”.
To celebrate her success in New Zealand, Carly Rae Jepsen will be in Auckland for a whirlwind visit, arriving on May 5. We’ll keep you posted of any in-store appearances she might do over the weekend.
In the meantime, you can watch her official video (again), check out her website, find her on Facebook, or follow her on Twitter.
